Due to the city’s modern-day prosperity and temperate climate, almost half of Jordan’s population is concentrated in the Amman area. The downtown area, the oldest part of Amman is crowned by the Citadel, offers a panoramic view of the whole city. Here one can also see the ancient ruins of the Temple of Hercules that dates back to (AD 161 – 180), the Byzantine Church, and the fascinating Archaeological Museum which houses an excellent collection of the antiquities of Jordan. After lunch take a safari vehicle and learn about the re-introduction of the Arabian Ibex and Oryx at the Shawmari Wildlife Reserve.

Day 7 : Petra – Wadi Rum

After Breakfast, the world wonder and undoubtedly Jordan’s most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction, and it is visited by tourists from all over the world. It is not known precisely when Petra was built, but the city began to prosper as the capital of the Nabataean Empire from the 1st century BC, which grew rich through trade in frankincense, myrrh, and spices. It was carved out of the solid Rock before about 2000 years ago by the Arab Nabateans. Start the tour on horse-back till the Dam area, then on foot pass by the fascinating narrow gorge (the Siq), which is about one kilometer long and eighty meters high. Once of a sudden you will be facing Petra’s most famous monument the Treasury (el-Khazneh), continue on foot towards the Monastery (ed- Deir) passing by the Theater, Qasr el-bint, small houses and curved gates. From the top of the Monastery one can clearly view Palestine the blessed land, the whole area of Sinai & the shrine of the prophet Aaron.

Afternoon drive to Wadi Rum which lies in the far south of Jordan, set on a high plateau at the western edge of the Arabian desert. Gargantuan rock formations, rippled sand dunes, and clear night skies create an almost fairy-tale setting across an unpopulated area the size of New York City. This is truly the “reddest” part of Jordan, colored by iron oxide, and by far the most dramatic in terms of landscape. Visiting Wadi Rum is a voyage through the geological evolution of Earth, and many of these topographical features are older than the Dead Sea Rift that forms the western border of Jordan. Massive mesas pop straight up from the sea of sand, the result of primordial tectonic movement that cleaved the bedrock with almost cubic perfection before raising it high above the desert floor. Blowing sand and winter floods smoothed the valleys and gorges, shaping the sandstone into natural towers and curving arches. Harder, older granite forms the substrate of Wadi Rum and is visible among the base strata of the higher mountains

Day 8 : Wadi Rum – Amman
